We live and work in smaller rural, largely agricultural communities that are great places to live and raise a family. WBDC employs senior research scientists, an economist, technical staff, supporting ranch staff and administration and clerical staff.

SUMMER STUDENT

Posting Date: December 22, 2011

Position:
The Western Beef Development Centre – a division of PAMI – requires two summer students for work at the Termuende Research Ranch in Lanigan, where it manages a 300-head herd and 2500 acres of range and cropland for research and technology transfer.

Duties:

Ranch duties which include:

  • Construction and moving of corrals, barbwire or electric fencing
  • Yard and facilities maintenance
  • Operation and maintenance of farm equipment
  • General farm work, much of which requires physical labour

Field data collection for ongoing projects:

  • Forage Managemetn Research
  • Grazing Management Research
  • Handling and weighing cattle

Forage sample collection and preparation.
Forage sample drying, weighing and results recording.
Seeding of plots and care of forage sites.
Weekend and overtime work required.

Qualifications:
The successful applicant must have:

  • Two years of post-secondary education.
  • The ability to work independently.
  • Farm background and experience.
  • The ability to operate farm equipment.
  • Computer skills required for data entry and analysis.
  • A Valid driver’s license.

Duration:
This is a summer position from May 1 to August 31, 2012.

Salary Range :
Competitive wages depending on qualifications.
